FAQ
Please review the following list of frequently asked questions. If you don’t find the answer to your question, please contact us so that we can explain our procedures and policies further.
Since November 2006, New York State law has allowed patients to see a physical therapist without a prescription for the first 30 days or 10 visits, whichever comes first. Under this “direct access law,” we evaluate and treat you based on a thorough physical therapy examination. If we suspect that your symptoms are not musculoskeletal in nature or warrant further medical testing, we will refer you to a doctor. Any visits beyond the 30 day/10 visit allocation require a physical therapy prescription from a New York State licensed medical doctor (MD), osteopath (DO), podiatrist (DPM), Dentist (DDS or DMD), or Nurse Practitioner (NP). Please note that, although New York State law allows direct access, many insurance plans still require a prescription at all times for payment. Please check with your individual insurance plan regarding their policy. It is your responsibility to keep track of your visits and to obtain necessary prescriptions.
Your first appointment will consist of a 60 minute initial evaluation. Your therapist will review exam findings and work with you to develop a plan of care. Please allow 50-60 minutes for subsequent treatments. We encourage you to ask questions regarding your condition or our treatment approach. You always have the right to refuse any therapeutic procedures at any time.
We will make every effort to respect your time, and we ask that you do the same for your therapist and fellow patients. If you are late for an appointment, your appointment will still end at the scheduled time. If you are more than 30 minutes late, we will not be able to treat you due to the limited time available, and a cancellation fee will be applied.
Physical therapy appointments are available between 8 am and 8 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. Appointments for other services, including Pilates, massage, and yoga, are available upon request.
Please bring clothing that allows you to move easily and that best exposes the area of your injury. As a courtesy, we provide shorts, T-shirts, and tank tops for your use if you choose not to bring your own.
To ensure your safety, please only use equipment in our gym that your physical therapist has instructed you to use. Unsupervised use of the Pilates equipment is not allowed. Visiting children, who are not being seen as patients, are not allowed in the gym area.
Once an appointment is made, please remember that this time has been reserved for you. Therefore, you will be charged $75.00 for appointments missed or canceled without at least 24 hours advance notification. This fee is not billable to any insurance company. If you have two consecutive no-shows, we will automatically cancel all future appointments and will wait to hear from you to reschedule.
To provide our superior one-on-one care and individualized treatment, we are out-of-network providers for all private insurance plans. For your added convenience and expedited reimbursement for physical therapy services, we will be happy to file insurance claims electronically on your behalf. We will bill you directly for deductible and co-insurance payments.
